How much easier would it be if you could see your home design ideas before you go ahead and buy materials and furniture? The answer is: a lot easier! Whether you are planning that long-overdue renovation, are an interior designer or a real estate agent, it might be a great idea to create a digital model of a dream design prior to bringing it to life. Although an obvious idea is to turn to Photoshop and its free alternatives, floor plan creators are amazing and helpful tools that are targeted at this specific subject.
The best free floor plan creator services allow you to see how your home will look once you redecorate, or help you show a client a detailed overview of a space. Numerous programs are available, and many of them cost a lot of money. However, there are also many free floor plan creator apps that provide amazing tools and look great while doing it.
We have tested the best free floor plan creators of 2018 and compiled a list to show which are worth consideration.
Home Design Software & Interior Design Tool ONLINE for home & floor plans in 2D & 3D.
Simply the easiest and most powerful free online floor planner we tested, HomeStyler 3D is almost complete enough to rival fully paid home design programs. The most notable feature of the app is its preset room spaces. There are plenty to choose from, including various city and country room designs.
These presets are accompanied by the alternative choice to start from scratch using an empty space. More interestingly, HomeStyler 3D gives users the ability to use a device camera to photograph their own room and place furniture on the photo. Quite simply, we had loads of fun with this ability, and it would be immensely powerful for actual interior design purposes.
We also enjoyed how easy it is to place furniture and resize it in a space. More importantly, you are not limited by furniture hidden behind a paywall as all items are free. HomeStyler achieves this by using a catalog system where users are essentially using furniture they can purchase. It’s an excellent way to essentially use advertising to make an app more powerful.
Available on the web (no sign up necessary) and on iOS and Android, the only limitation we found for HomeStyler 3D was its lack of availability on Windows desktop.

Most free floor planning suites will hide features behind a premium paywall, and Planner 5D is certainly no different. That said, this program provides a powerful set of free features, making it one of the most extensive free room-design software’s available. Its rich tools make designing a floor plan easy, including stairs, windows, doors, and dividing walls.
You can perform nuanced architectural changes, and you can even head outside and create plans for landscaping and pools. All graphics can be seen in 2D or 2D, providing a level of clear detail. Available on the web, Windows, Android, iOS, and OS X, Planner 5D is extremely versatile, providing a strong visualizing tool that renders the design in photorealistic 3D.
Whilst creating a plan, users are able to select multiple floors, which is ideal for complete property renovations. We love the sharing tools of Planner 5D, allowing you to share your creations through email and social media, or across the 17 million strong Planner 5D community.
As is common with free floor plan creator services, many items in the app are hidden behind a paywall. There is no single paid premium version of Planner 5D, instead new furniture items and features are bought individually through in-app purchases.
OS: Windows 10, Web, iOS, OS X, Android
Licensing: Free with in-app purchases

Roomle is a completely free house floor plan creator that is an excellent choice for people giving their home a makeover, making it a good tool for professional interior designers. However, it also comes with a significant limitation, but more on that soon.
Visualizing the potential of a space is Roomle’s core ability. While the app certainly has appeal for professionals, it is a perfect solution for sitting down in your home and seeing what you can do with your rooms. That’s because Roomle was the most intuitive app for moving around furniture and resizing it in a 3D environment during our tests.
Homestyler 3D offered the same furniture placement capabilities, but Roomle overall felt more efficient in this aspect. Also like our number one choice, Roomle uses a catalog system to ensure hundreds of furniture and fixing products are available for free.
The reason Roomle is third in our ranking is because it has one minor frustration and one significant limitation. In terms of the small annoyance, we did not like having to register to use the app, but that’s by no means a deal breaker. The major limitation will be more of a problem for many users. Roomle is a mobile app only, it is available on iOS and Android, but not on Windows 10 or on the web. Basically, that means you will not be able to use this service on a PC.

In a sea of modern free floor planner tools, the old fashioned design of Sweet Home 3D seems quaint. Contico tool box replacement parts. A traditional desktop program, this app is best for users who crave a computer app experience that will work without internet.
An open source solution, it is true Sweet Home 3D is not as granular as other apps. However, it is perfect for users who need to draw up a quick floor map or to see how furniture functions in a space. Speaking of the furniture, it is very basic, whether rendered in 3D or 2D. In Sweet Home 3D, a chair is a chair, a table is a table, and so on. Multiple choices for each furniture item are not available, so if you want a tool to create how your room will exactly look, this is not for you.
Don’t be confused by its humbleness, because Sweet Home 3D is still a powerful tool. Among its features is the ability annotate a plan, create easy dimensions, and import the blueprint for printing, PDFs, videos, and more.

Arguably the most complete schematic 3d floor plan creator, MagicPlan is hampered by hiding too many features behind paid versions. While many others on this list are excellent at room planning and furniture placement, MagicPlan can create powerful and detailed floor plans.
Plan creation is simple and intuitive, allowing users to customize dimensions and place furniture and structure elements at scale. In terms of design, MagicPlan looks more serious than some competitors and is clearly meant as a robust tool for professionals.
Unfortunately, the app’s true power is hidden behind several different premium versions. Indeed, aside from creating plans, you will need to upgrade for features such as estimates, export tools, HD images, and more.

The items we nominated for the best free floor plan creator of 2018 are a diverse bunch. From fully free services that use catalogs, to dedicated programs that deliver solid free versions, but need a later purchase to unlock their full power. Either way, each of the apps in our list are impressive in their own right thanks to consistently strong features and ease of use.

I was already an interior design and home architecture nut as a kid and teenager. I’d spend hours looking at house plans, real estate magazines, luxury home magazines, going to open houses with my mom and drawing my own home plans.
My passion for home architecture and design continues, except now with the internet it’s so easy to spend hours at it.
Moreover, with computers, I can take my designing rooms and homes to the next level with interior design software.
If you’re like me and like messing around with design on a computer for fun or you have a project to design and complete, a great starting point after checking out photos and open houses for inspiration is to sketch out ideas with design software.
You can do it yourself or hire a professional (interior designer and/or architect) to do it for you.
Fortunately, there are many home interior design software options available online.
Some are free and some cost money. Some you can use directly online (web-based) and other types you must download to your computer.
What follows is a list of some of the best free and paid interior design software options. They’re listed with free options first, followed by paid options.
I urge you to check out each one (especially the free options) to see what works best for you.

Houzz recently launched a really cool feature in its app called “View in My Room”. What it does is it enables you to take a photo of your room and then you can insert images of furniture into that photo.
Talk about brilliant. This way you can see what furniture actually looks like in your room.
Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately if you’re on your phone) it’s only available as a mobile app.

It’s cloud-based so you don’t need to download anything at all.
